Saturday was such a fun, but exhausting day!! We started it early with a ward activity, and I will be forever mad at myself for not bringing our camera! Matt let himself get talked into a pie eating contest, and it was so hilarious to watch him and the other guys! I would have loved a picture of him with pie all over his face!! I am really hoping somebody else in the ward got a good picture that they will send me. And then Porter was so excited to enter the hot dog eating contest.......it was so cute to watch him competing against all these adults. They were all given six hot dogs in buns, and the first to finish them won! Porter had eaten four hot dogs by the time somebody won, and he would have kept on going if we hadn't made him stop! The ward Primary President had quit after 2 1/2 hot dogs, so he was very pleased with himself that he didn't come in last!!
So after all the fun at church, we got to go have more fun at the Henry Doorly Zoo. Mutual of Omaha was sponsoring a Wild About Omaha weekend, and they were having free activities all over the city. Saturday you could get into the zoo for FREE! We debated if it was worth the hassle of dealing with the crowds, but we just couldn't pass up FREE!! Luckily we didn't have to deal with parking because they were running busses back and forth from here in Bellevue to the zoo. I think that was one of the kids favorite parts of the day, especially Ben who has never had the cool experience of riding in a vehicle without a carseat! And even with the gajillion other people there, we were still able to see a lot of cool things and have fun. By the time we left the zoo we were all pretty tired, but our day wasn't over yet! After the zoo we headed out to Grandma and Grandpa Holmgren's house to pick corn! We haven't had much success the last couple of years planting corn in our garden, so this year we went and planted our corn out at Matt's parent's house along with all their corn. So, yay! We finally got to go harvest it, and more importantly EAT it.......and it is ssooooo! yummy! We were able to bring a ton home with us and spent many hours preparing it and freezing it all. I love to come down to my freezer in the middle of winter when all our fresh veggies have been long gone and still find lots of my favorite veggies waiting for me to eat them. It is getting pretty full of zucchini, squash, beans, and now corn! YUMMY! So anyway.....it was a very long (but FUN!) day!!!
