COUNCILMAN HOLMGREN

One day Porter came home from school with a big piece of poster board. I immediately thought that he must have to do a report or project for school, but he surprised me when he said that he had to make a poster because he was running for student council. He said that at first he wasn't going to, but he had decided to sign up at the last minute. He said fourteen kids had signed up in his class and then they had a vote that day to narrow it down to four. It ended up being Porter and three girls, and they each had to make a poster and give a speech. The class was going to vote and two kids would be chosen to represent their class in the student council......one for each semester. We were very happy when Porter came home a couple days later and told us he had won. He is now representing his class for the first semester of school. Porter tends to be quiet and reserved like his mom, so I am glad that he gets to have this experience to get him talking to different people, learning to make decisions, working with a group, and maybe even start getting some leadership experience.
